Shaw Green Ancient Tartan Kilt
Clan Shaw descends from Shaw MacDuff, a son of Duncan, Earl of Fife and a descendant of Kenneth MacAlpin. Shaw became keeper of Inverness Castle under King Malcolm IV. His descendants, the Mhic anToiseach (“sons of the Thane”), built power around Inverness. Shaw’s grandson gained Rothiemurchus lands in 1263, and his lineage allied with Clan Donald through marriage. From this line, John-Angus, son of Eva of Clan Chattan, became the first chief of Clan Shaw.
During the Wars of Scottish Independence, the Shaws fought at Bannockburn (1314) and in raids into England. Shaw Bucktooth led Clan Chattan at the Battle of North Inch in 1396. By the 15th century, Clan Shaw settled in Tordarroch, becoming known as Clan Ay. They signed key Clan Chattan agreements in 1543 and 1609.
In the Jacobite rising of 1715, Robert and Angus Shaw led disciplined troops for the Jacobites. After imprisonment and exile, Angus refused to rise in 1745, though many Shaws still supported the Stuarts, including James Shaw and John Shaw of Kinrara under Lady Anne Mackintosh.
The Shaw Green Ancient Tartan Kilt blends soft, earthy green tones with faded blues and muted lines, reflecting the natural dyes used in historical Scottish kilts. This timeless tartan honors the legacy of Clan Shaw, offering an authentic connection to ancient Highland tradition. Ideal for those seeking heritage and elegance in one garment.
