Clan Morrison, rooted in the Isle of Lewis, takes its name from the Gaelic MacGilleMhoire meaning "son of a servant of Mary". Once powerful hereditary brieves (judges) of Lewis, the Morrisons were also known as Clann-na Breitheamh. The surname later evolved into Morrison, with variants like Morison and Gilmore. Their ancestral stronghold was Ness, and they were prominent in Barvas and Habost, before being displaced by clan conflict with the MacLeods and Macaulays. Many later settled in Durness, Sutherland, alongside Clan Mackay.

A separate Morrison line descends from the Irish Ó Muirgheasáin bards of Harris, who served the MacLeods and later Anglicised their name. Meanwhile, mainland Morrisons—unrelated to the Lewis clan—descend from Norman roots, notably the Morisons of Bognie, Aberdeenshire. Lady Diana, Princess of Wales, traced maternal lineage to this family.

Clan Morrison has a rich, battle-scarred legacy across Lewis, Harris, Sutherland, and the Highlands. The last great Morrison–Macaulay clan battle was in 1654. In modern times, Dr. John Morrison of Ruchdi was recognised as Clan Chief in 1965, succeeded by Dr. Ian Morrison and later his son R. Alasdair Morrison in 2020.

The Morrison Green Ancient Tartan Kilt showcases a soft, earthy palette of light green, faded blue, and subtle red, capturing the traditional tones worn by the Morrison clan in ancient times. Crafted from durable acrylic wool, this men’s tartan kilt offers both comfort and long-lasting wear, making it ideal for Highland dress, formal events, and Scottish heritage celebrations.
