By the 15th century, Macnaghtens became vassals of the Campbells. Alexander Macnaghten was knighted and survived the Battle of Flodden. The clan later rebuilt Dunderave Castle on Loch Fyne, their historic seat.
In the 17th century, they supported the French Huguenots and fought in Glencairn’s Rising and Killiecrankie, leading to land loss and exile. The Irish Macnaghten line survived, with Sir Francis Workman-Macnaghten later recognized as clan chief.
