Clan Arthur, also known as Clan MacArthur (Scottish Gaelic: Clann Artair), is one of the oldest Highland Scottish clans, originally holding lands near Loch Awe in Argyll. Closely related to Clan Campbell, the MacArthurs once rivaled them for leadership. A Skye branch served as hereditary pipers to the MacDonalds of Sleat.

During King Robert the Bruce’s reign, Arthur Campbell of Clan MacArthur gained vast lands and Dunstaffnage Castle. The clan’s influence declined after Chief Iain MacArthur was executed by James I in 1427. Their lands were reduced, leaving only Strachur and parts of Perthshire.

In 1771, the last known chief died without a male heir, leaving the clan without leadership for over 200 years. In 2002, James Edward Moir MacArthur was officially recognized as the Chief of Clan Arthur, reviving the chiefship. Today, his son John Alexander MacArthur serves as the clan’s chief and is a member of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.

The MacArthur Ancient Tartan Kilt showcases a timeless design rooted in Scottish heritage, featuring earthy tones of light green, faded blue, and muted red. Representing Clan Arthur, one of Argyll’s oldest Highland clans, this tartan reflects centuries of tradition and resilience. Worn proudly by descendants of the clan, the ancient tartan kilt connects wearers to their noble ancestry near Loch Awe.

Perfect for historical reenactments, Highland games, and formal gatherings, this kilt is made with high-quality acrylic. The classic box pleats at the back ensure comfort and mobility, while the front apron highlights the soft, weathered look of ancient dyes. The MacArthur Ancient Tartan is ideal for those seeking an authentic Highland appearance with traditional charm.
