Lumsden Tartan Kilt
The origins of Clan Lumsden trace back to the 12th century in Berwickshire, when the lands of Lumsdene were granted to Coldingham Priory. Early ancestors like Gillem and Cren de Lummisden were recorded between 1166–1182, and Adam de Lumsden of that Ilk appeared in the Ragman Rolls of 1296, pledging fealty to Edward I.
The clan’s first recognized chief, Gilbert de Lumsden, married the heiress of Blanerne in 1329, adopting the white-tailed eagle crest still used by the Fife branch. His sons founded various Lumsden branches including Blanerne, Airdrie, Innergellie, and Cushnie.
In the 17th century, Sir James and Alexander Lumsden of cadet lines registered arms. James Lumsden fought under Gustavus Adolphus and later for the royalists during the Civil War. The Cushnie branch held baronial status and seats in Parliament.
During the Jacobite Rising of 1745, Andrew Lumsden served as secretary to Charles Edward Stuart, later joining the court of the Old Pretender in Rome. He was pardoned in 1778, and his Jacobite tartan waistcoat survives at Pitcaple Castle.
The Lumsden Tartan Kilt showcases the proud legacy of Clan Lumsden, featuring a rich blend of deep green, navy blue, and red tones. Woven in a classic sett, this tartan reflects the clan’s noble origins in Berwickshire and their historic ties to Blanerne Castle and Fife. The kilt’s traditional color scheme symbolizes strength, loyalty, and resilience, hallmarks of the Lumsden name.
Crafted from high-quality acrylic wool or premium worsted wool, the Lumsden Tartan Kilt is tailored for both casual and formal wear. Its pleated back and adjustable leather straps ensure a perfect fit and timeless look, suitable for Highland games, weddings, or cultural events.
