The Leask clan name may come from the Anglo-Saxon “lisse” meaning happy, or the Norse word for “a stirring fellow.” Some believe it traces to Liscus, a Gaulish chief mentioned by Julius Caesar. Early records include William de Laskereske on the Ragman Rolls (1296) and William Leask receiving a land charter from David II of Scotland around 1345.

By 1390, Clan Leask gained lands from Henry de Brogan, and a branch settled in Orkney, preserving the longest male Leask line. The clan allied closely with Clan Hay, with Wilfred Leask signing a bond of manrent in 1456. The clan later pledged loyalty to James VI in 1574.

In the 1600s, Clan Leask faced feuds with the Gordons, and Alexander Leask registered arms in 1672. However, the clan lost their lands after investing in the failed Darien scheme, with Robert Cumming acquiring the estate.

The Clan Leask Ancient Scottish Tartan Kilt features earthy tones of green, muted blue, and soft brown, reflecting the natural beauty of Aberdeenshire where the clan has deep roots. This kilt honors centuries of Leask heritage, tied to early Scottish nobility and alliances with Clan Hay. Woven with traditional sett patterns, the ancient tartan design connects wearers to the clan’s 14th-century origins and its strong historical presence in Orkney and the northeast Highlands.

Ideal for Highland wear, Scottish festivals, or formal events, this ancient Leask kilt delivers authenticity and pride in Scottish identity.
