Clan Kincaid descends from noble Scottish families including the Earls of Lennox and the Galbraiths. The name likely originates from Gaelic "ceann-cadha" meaning "steep pass" or “head of the rock.” In 1238, the Kincaid lands were granted to Sir William Galbraith, and later passed to the Kincaid family through marriage. The clan gained prominence after recapturing Edinburgh Castle in 1296, earning a castle symbol on their crest.

During the 16th century, Clan Kincaid acquired estates like Craiglockhart and Blackness Castle. They endured feuds, including with Clan Lennox. In the 17th and 18th centuries, they supported royalist and Jacobite causes, leading many to emigrate to America. The clan name later merged with Lennox but was revived in 1959 by Alwyne Cecil Kincaid of Kincaid. Today, Arabella Jane Kincaid of Kincaid serves as the chief.

The Clan Kincaid Ancient Scottish Tartan Kilt features a classic blend of earthy greens, deep blues, and muted reds, reflecting the clan’s Highland heritage. Woven in traditional patterns, this kilt pays homage to Kincaid’s historic ties to the Earls of Lennox and the capture of Edinburgh Castle in 1296.
