Clan MacLachlan traces its lineage to Lachlan Mór, who lived on Loch Fyne’s shores in the 13th century. The clan descends from Anrothan O'Neill, an Irish prince of the 11th century, whose descendants settled in Argyll. Through marital alliances and royal charters, the MacLachlans of Strathlachlan gained lands in Cowal and Knapdale, closely connected to other clans like Lamont, MacNeil, MacEwen, and Sweeney.

Their ancestral seat, Old Castle Lachlan, was established in the 15th century and overlooks Loch Fyne. Historical documents trace Clan MacLachlan’s land ownership to 1292. Prominent figures like Gillespie MacLachlan appeared in the Ragman Rolls and held charters from Robert the Bruce.

Throughout the Jacobite risings, the MacLachlans remained loyal. Colonel Lachlan MacLachlan, the 17th chief, led his clan at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 and was killed in action. Though Castle Lachlan was shelled by government forces, the clan's lands were preserved with help from the Duke of Argyll.

In the 18th century, the family moved into New Castle Lachlan, still home to the chief today. The clan is now represented globally through the Clan MacLachlan Society and preserved by the Lachlan Trust, which oversees the conservation of historical sites like Kilmorie Chapel.

The MacLachlan Ancient Tartan Kilt showcases the timeless beauty of Scottish heritage with softer, earthy tones of green, light blue, and faded yellow—reflecting natural vegetable dye shades once used in traditional Highland weaving. This ancient tartan honors the proud lineage of Clan MacLachlan, whose roots trace back to the 13th-century shores of Loch Fyne.
