Clan Nicolson is a Lowland Scottish clan tracing its roots to a 16th-century Edinburgh lawyer and earlier Aberdeen merchants. Recognised officially in the 1980s, David Nicolson, 4th Baron Carnock, was acknowledged as the clan chief by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. Notably, there are two distinct clans with similar names—the Lowland Clan Nicolson and the Highland Clan MacNeacail (formerly anglicised as Nicolson but now restored to Gaelic).

The surname Nicolson means "son of Nicol," with Nicol translating to "victory people." Clan Nicolson’s heraldry features golden shields with falcons, symbolising their noble heritage. The clan’s origins connect loosely to Norse influences, including Anders Nicolassen, a foster brother to King Haakon IV of Norway, involved in the Scottish-Norwegian War and the Treaty of Perth.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Nicolson chiefly line prospered, with members serving as bishops, parliament commissioners, and baronets in Nova Scotia. By the 19th century, the title Baron Carnock passed through several military leaders, including Major General Sir William Nicolson and Admiral Sir Frederick Nicolson.

Clan Nicolson’s crest badge features a lion and the motto "GENEROSITATE," meaning "by generosity" or "by inheritance." Today, the clan honours its rich heritage through heraldry, tartans, and historic titles.

The Nicolson Weathered Tartan Kilt features a stylish, worn-in look that adds character to the classic Nicolson tartan design.
